My son and I headed to Wildwood on Saturday and came home on Sunday. The weather was great and we walked down the boardwalk and took in some sights. Here are some pictures and observations.
It's interesting how they leave lights and signs turned on for some businesses, even though they are closed for the season.
Although not much on the boardwalk was open...there were a few shops still doing business.
Of course Gateway 26 was open...and we were surprised to see that they already have their car on display for next season! It is a 1995 Corvette. It is old, but looks to be in great shape. According to one of the workers, it only had one owner and only has about 21k miles on it.
Randy was open and we went in and played some Fascination and talked for awhile. He now has several different buttons that you can win with your tickets...so we picked out four of our favorites.
After talking to Randy, I found out that he owns these Omni-buses that turned up in Wildwood in the beginning of the season. It turns out that they came from Walt Disney World and were ones that were used on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom as well as the World Showcase in Epcot. In fact, these two buses still have the World Showcase logo on the radiators. Randy told me that Disney built these buses in house and that he used to drive them and maintain them when he worked as part of the main street maintenance crew at Walt Disney World. Because of his Disney connections, he was able to acquire the buses and bring them to Wildwood. He hasn't put them into service yet, but he hopes to see them being used to transport people in Wildwood.
The 3000 block is finally getting repairs after the storm damage from the middle of the season. It looks like they repaired the roof of the building, because they were putting up new sheetrock in the shops.
Not sure what the deal was with this plastic hanging out of Joe's Pizzeria.
The top of the Mana Ice Co overhang looks properly repaired now after the removal of the Rita's Ice awning.
I've never noticed this sign painted on the Boardwalk Chapel gate before....but I am not up this way too often.
They are building a new pump station and laying new pipe to the ocean at Leaming Ave.
The lighting and overhang of the Ocean Towers Shops looks recently redone and in excellent shape.
The Surf Shop put up Christmas lights around their sign.
The municipal building also went all out for the holidays.
We ate lunch at the Lobster House in Cape May before heading home on Sunday. Not many people were dining in that day. Well, we had another nice trip in Wildwood and might return one more time before closing up the house for the season. Still enjoying those Wildwood Days.
Randy had one of the double decker bus out at Chriestmas time. He was in parade and also took people around town to sing Christmas carols .
I'm shocked Gateway is actually has a decent car for next year. Would be curious to know the mileage.
I like Randy's buttons, wish he had them when we were playing back in August but hopefully can pick up some next year. I wonder how much he paid for those busses? It will be nice to see them in operation on the island.
I haven't been to The Lobster House in several years, how was your meal?
Really enjoyed the report and pics. Really loved the Ocean Towers pic. Thanks.....Warren
