Even though the weather was cold and windy, we made a quick trip to Wildwood from Friday through Saturday to take care of a few things at the house. Here are a few observations from our trip.
Although the boardwalk was empty...the Coke sign was on. Unfortunately, more of the neon in Cola is not working.
The Morey's Piers sign on Mariner's was also on...and it too needs some neon work.
The Ferris wheel was lit in Ukraine colors.
The new Bubba's was open on 18th Ave.
There is still a lot of work to do on the new section of boardwalk.
A new ramp is going in at the Strand block.
We got a look at the new solar farm over the Morey's parking lot on Poplar Avenue.
Sam's was open...but we decided to eat at the Lobster House in Cape May. Now if Mack's was open...I would have been eating pizza.
Gateway 26 was one of the few places open on the boardwalk...and they were doing pretty good business. They had several new games...including a huge Hungry Hippos game. The "new" car this year is a Mercedes convertible. I'm not sure what year it is.
That was it for this short trip. Hopefully when we return in April it is much warmer and more is open.
As always, a great report. I hope they fix that Coca-Cola sign...such an icon of the boardwalk.
Am I the only one who is OCD'ing about the new section of the boardwalk having different color boards then the rest of the boardwalk? lol
Another great report! There's something really nice about coming down off season and watching everything slowly start to open up. We were down at the end of February for the day, but it was too cold to spend a lot of time walking around. I'm excited to be back when it's warmer.
I love Sam's and it's my first choice for a solid slice of five. I'm sad that Woodys is no longer around but at least there's something in its spot and not just an old building or lot. Plus it's convenient having a liquor store so close to where I stay.
It's a disgustingly beautiful weekend here in Wildwood. The town's coming to life, with a lot of people visiting from other parts of the area, and people from places like Philly who have summer homes here. More locations are open. It's a good weekend to visit.
As always, really enjoyed the pics and commentary. Thanks for posting.......Warren
Great report and pics! It's good to see things start to open up a little bit. I wonder if Morey's broken neon is due to the winter weather? It is starting to look like winter is over and the season is just around the corner!
Thanks for the awesome photos. It's great seeing everyone's photos of town. Even living right around it, there's so much that we don't catch, and rely on tourists to show us their fun. Friday afternoon was a little more mild here. Stella Star was at Gateway on Friday afternoon, and even during school hours, it had quite a bit of activity! She posed at the Hungry Hungry Hippos game that you photographed, but we're holding it back, because it wasn't around in 1983, which is when her clothes were dated.
Another great report, buddy. Thank you. Spring is one day closer
