I was down for a week at the end of July spending some time with my son who is working hard this summer. Here are a few pictures and observations.
Had some delicious Mack's....of course.
We got takeout at the Crab & Seafood Shack on Park & Burk Avenue and saw this fantastic map of the island from 1984. I've never seen this map before and loved looking at all the old places depicted in the drawings...most of which are no longer there.
The CocaCola sign is lighting at night again...although part of the neon on the "a" is out.
The Pirates of Wildwood is officially closed for the season. I never saw it open once this season. The Zoom Floom was running for a short while one day while we were down this week, but then it quickly closed and I didn't see it open again.
Apparently they sell Iced Coffee on the beach now...at first I thought it was mixed drinks.
The arcade in the Boardwalk Mall is getting better, and there were actually some people playing in there. They still can't complete with the other boardwalk arcades like Bobby Dee's, Gateway, Eds or Mariner's.
They actually added little twinkle lights to the Joe's Pizza sign.
I rented a little skiff and went out on the bay with my daughter and her cousin for about 3 hours. We didn't have much luck getting crabs, but we did get a bunch of muscles and they were delicious.
My daughter got a "chillin pineapple" at the Dole Whips place at the Boardwalk Mall. She liked it, but there was a lot of wasted pineapple on the inside.
That was all for this trip. I will be returning to the island again next week.
love your report. I cannot believe how big your daughter got!
awesome report as always. bummed that Pirates and Ghost Ship are closed for the season...but on a positive, glad to see a bit more business and care into the Boardwalk Mall arcade. I love that location and it has so much potential.
I'm hearing Randy is opening up a 2nd arcade...hear anything about that?
I actually had a copy of that poster in the late 80’s. I regret that I don’t have it anymore. I remember buying it in a gift shop near Pacific and Wildwood Avenue. It seems like it was one of those advertiser supported maps, given the variety of businesses on the map.
Enjoyed the info and pics. Thanks for posting......Warren
As usual, great pictures...especially Macks! I heard the Zoom Phloom had technical issues and a part needed to be replaced. Hopefully they get it up and running soon (if it's not already). You're so lucky you can keep coming down on weekends. We've made trips in Jan., Feb., April, and May, but with the higher rates I've had to wait until my vacation at the end of the month. I've been experiencing some major withdrawal.
Great pics and report as usual. I can almost taste the Macks! It's really great you are getting to spend time on the island as your son is working and August will be gone before we know it. Have fun next week when you return.
Nice trip report.
