We just returned from a far too short 3 night, 4 day stay at The Fleur de Lis. As my grand children get older and more involved in summer sports and other activities, it becomes more challenging to make reservations. And too The Fleur de lis books up quickly and that adds to the challenge. June was all we could get and so we took it. Its a different world in June. The evenings are of course cooler but i must say the daytime temps were very nice, in the upper 70"s. Some things on the boardwalk were not open, but most were, and some closed early. Relatively few people on the beach. Perhaps the economy is starting to show its effect at the shore. It was a bit shocking to see the Nassau Inn across from us with only three cars in the parking area. The Tangiers as well had few guests. Other motels were similarly sparsely inhabited although i cannot speak for all the other motels.
We made a return visit to The Cape May County Zoo. It was very enjoyable and it is a very nice place. It was very busy and heavily attended. We went to the Boardwalk two nights and i restocked my Wildwood and Wildwood Crest t-shirts as all my other ones needed replacement. We ate at Uries our last night there. Two things i noticed on the bikepath. First, The Ocean Holiday motel stands gutted with no construction activity evident. Also the WWC lifeguard station is closed with some demolition, their front beachside access, having been done. I dont know what the plans are for the building whether replacement or upgrading. Their office is now located in the old information center just behind the building but I dont know where they are keeping all their equipment. The information center is now located in the refurbished library bulding on the bike path.
We really enjoyed our stay as always. We didnt make it last year so it was great to be back. I hope we can get reservations next year either in July or August. Best wishes to all for a safe and fun summer.......Warren.
Thanks for the report Warren. The Cape May Zoo is usually pretty busy because it remains one of the free attractions that you can visit...other than the Wildwood beach. How was your meal at Uries?
