Since there hasn't been much activity on the forum, I figured I'd throw up a retro report. My son was only 2 months old and this was his first trip to Wildwood. He is now 15 and worked last summer on the boardwalk.
His first time on the beach. It looks like it tired him out.
Dante's Inferno had just been re-themed as Dante's Dungeon that year.
Sam's Pizza had just reopened that summer after the fire. They had not rebuilt the hotel yet.
The awning was not yet faded, but it was a seagull target.
I tried a slice of Sam's and was reminded why I usually get Mack's.
The Sand Jamm had just opened that summer.
Before Captain Jacks there was the Magic Brain.
The short-lived Boardwalk Fries on the old Hunt's Pier.
The debut of the Coke tram car.
They added the "Midtown Castle" sign on top of the Wildwood Casino sign for some odd reason.
My son was too sleepy for Mack's....which was a good thing because it meant more for me!
Well, that was all for this trip. Soon we will be heading down again as the island starts coming out of hibernation. Morey's will be opening the first weekend of April which is early this year. My son plans on working there again this summer.
I'm looking at your photos again. I'm in the mood for some pizza now, after looking at that slice. Mack's isn't open yet, but Sam's is on weekends, and I love them both.
Awesome pics Bill! It looks like 06 was quite the year of change on the boardwalk. It's so weird seeing Sam's by itself! It's a bit sad seeing the end of Hunt's Pier essentially. 04-12 were years I haven't been down, so it's cool to see what I missed in that time frame.
That was really nice. Very enjoyable.
I can't wait for the warm weather and summer season. This winter has been very cold and windy as far as I'm concerned. We are talking about a preseason trip in early June for a few days, we haven't done that in a few years.
Wow, those boardwalk shots really took me back to my senior year. I completely forgot that was the year of the fire...and not to mention the price of the tram! I can't wait to be back down there! Thanks for posing these photos; it's so nice to have a breath of summer past on a cold and (very) windy night like tonight.
Thanks for sharing these, and injecting some life into the forum! The town's been pretty dormant, but there's some activity going on. Motels are starting to get ready for the season, new book on our motels is scheduled for release next month, and today's the meeting to try and save the OceanView lobby. Stella Star has been active, with over 50 new posts ready for the summer season. She may begin posting early.
It was cool seeing Magic Brain, and Sand Jamm! On Friday, Stella went to the '80s and posed in front of those same tiled walls (and other places).
Great pics as usual. I bet the 15 years just flew by for you! Glad he is working there again this summer. I can't wait for the warm weather, it's been a long winter!!
