I was down to spend some time with my son for the 4th of July. The weather was nice and we had a great time. Here are some pictures and observations:
I had a delicious slice of Mack's. I asked about their missing sign (the one that hangs above the "STOP" sign) and I was told that it is being refurbished. I'm glad the retro sign wasn't thrown away and I can't wait to see it fixed up.
I tired a slice of Joe's for the first time. It is big so I had it sliced in half to share with my son. I thought it was fine, but the dough was a little bland and it didn't have as much flavor as Mack's. It's edible, but not something I would get again.
The new Wildwood City Hall façade. I'm surprised they didn't add some colors to the windows.
A honey skin care place opened on the Baker Ave block.
Also on Baker Ave, Angelo's Pizza is now "Crazy Junky Pizza". What an odd name for a pizza place.
Another new shop up this way is selling fudge....although there is no alcohol in the chocolate moonshine.
There's a pizza cone shop in the Ocean Tower's at the end of the boardwalk. This doesn't even sound appealing to me.
Select games on the Morey's Piers now have large sized fry loving seagulls. My daughter got one of the smaller ones earlier in the season, but now she wants one of these big ones. They are in games that would cost a fortune to win them...so I don't think she'll be getting one anytime soon.
A new gift shop on 21st ave has a big can of Duff Beer even though they aren't selling beer.
A new hot dog place in North Wildwood that looks like Mr. Hankie.
The renovated Adam's Restaurant looks pretty nice.
Steak'em-Up must be doing well because they have fancy signs now.
We got talking to Dan, the owner of Eleanor's Gifts, and he said that he will probably sell the store at the end of this season and retire. Maybe that's why he hasn't properly fixed the lights inside his sign and just put up a small LED strip.
He has this picture of his mom, Eleanor, at the entrance to the store.
There was an issue with the ending of the July 4th firework show and the fireworks stopped before the grand finale. About 10 minutes later, they sent up all the remaining fireworks all at once for a tremendous surprise to all the people that were leaving. It happened so fast I didn't have time to get a picture of it.
Happy Birthday USA!
I love the Simpsons pop up! Wildwood needs more "character" , like it had back in the day (Star Wars, vampires, etc ) .
Sad about Eleanor's. A classic establishment.
