I'm glad the residents finally spoke up. It was a bad idea from the beginning. They already have new Rio Grande Avenue signs at each intersection anyway...so at least they didn't go to waste.
Guess I'll be the one to disagree with the group. The group recommending this is correct. Rio Grande Ave. has absolutely nothing to do with Wildwood. I always felt the main street into Wildwood should be more original or clever. I'm sure it makes no sense to any guest visiting for the first few times.
LOL....well I'm sure the DooWop Preservation League won't appreciate that comment. I think they are getting the word out there, but let's make that a separate discussion. I'll start a new thread to try to get a little action in here.
And changing the name would pi$$ you off? Really? I guess "pi$$ you off" is subjective in degrees of anger, so ok. Anyway I will agree with you that my opinion doesn't matter. The residents opinion is what really matters.
@Ed Zercher listen...I'm not going to loose sleep if they decide to change the name of the street...but if they do I think it's a bad decision. I also don't think it will help tourism on the island so they should focus on more important things like fixing up the boardwalk.
I"m with you. For nostalgic purposes I like Rio Grande, but I agree the main route onto the island would benefit from having something to do with Wildwood.
A win for the little guy! It stays Rio Grande ave!

if they really wanted a different name other than what they now call it I would have changed it to "by-the-sea blvd"!😀
I dislike the name "beach ball" for a street so I will always refer to it as Rio Grande...
It’s now Beach Ball Blvd.

Agreed. No reason to change the name
same here!
Sure hope not. I voted for it to stay Rio Grande
