Joey at Wildwood Video Archive posted an update for the Singapore Motel (https://wildwoodvideoarchive.com/first-look-at-the-singapore-motel-condos/)
Having stayed across the street at the Royal Hawaiian for several years, we always saw the police there a lot. I ended up staying there by accident one year for Mother's Day weekend. We were actually booked at the Oceanview but got a call from the owners while on the way down that there was an issue with that motel, so all reservations were moved to the Singapore. It was not a good experience, and you could tell that the owners had completely given up on the place. If I could afford to shell out more money for a different place I definitely would have! Still, it's sad to see more condos coming in, and the new building looks so plain and uninspired. It does say there was structural damage to the building, but it would have been nice to see a new motel put in its place with some kind of doo wop or island feel to it.
I guess you just have to catch it right as far as eBay goes. I have seen a lot of Wildwood related items. We haven't been to the museum in 20 years as it seems like we just never get there. Maybe if it rains when we are down in early October and they are open.
eBay is a good place to look for classic postcards.
Sometimes you can find brochures, postcards or even old Wildwoods Hotel-Motel guides for sale online. It stinks that whole area around the Three Coins got wiped out, Kona Kai, Tahiti and so many others. The Oceanview was the Admiral then the Admiral East.
Looks like it will have a large pool also unlike most condos. On another subject I worry about the future of the Oceanview Motel next door. I believe it is owned by the same people who used to own the Singapore. It gets horrid online reviews and some of the guest photos look pretty bad. it has a special place in my heart because it is the first motel my family ever stayed at in Wildwood Crest and I can remember it going way back to the late 60's when I was just 5,6, and 7 years old. It was almost new then as I think it opened in 1964 and was a beautiful place just like the Singapore was and the Pan American still is. Thank god for the Moreys as they keep their places in tip top shape.
I agree that it would have been great to have the Singapore rebuilt and remain a hotel but I choose to look at it as a glass half full situation. The majority of the building still stands and at least it wasn't torn down for more single family homes only the super rich can afford like the Captains Table. The Singapore was really something back in the 60's and 70's before new owners ran it into the ground, it really went downhill the last 10 years.
