Shalimar
Resort vacation package to be auctioned at Preservation New Jersey Gala
Doo
Wop Preservation League Advisory Board member Michael Hirsch will be representing
the board at The Preservation New Jersey Gala 2006. Preservation New Jersey is
a statewide advocacy organization which provides technical assistance, advocacy,
and education through tours, conferences, and workshops. The proceeds from the
Preservation New Jersey Gala provide funding for their programs such as naming
the annual 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites in New Jersey. Hirsch initiated the
nomination of the Doo Wop Historic District for listing in 2005. This year Preservation
New Jersey offered their strong voice to get our notable Motel District listed
on America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places 2006 by the National Trust for
Historic Preservation.
The Doo Wop Preservation League has donated a Doo
Wop gift "basket". The blue sand pail contains a "Wildwood Days" DVD, "Doo Wop
Motels of the Wildwoods" DVD, a "How to Doo Wop Handbook", and a Doo Wop Motels
T-shirt. Doo Wop Preservation League board member Maria Tenaglia who owns the
Shalimar Resort and Conference Center with her husband Aldo, has donated a "Special
Vacation Getaway at the newly renovated Doo Wop Motel." Built in 1962, the exotic
motel has been renovated for the 21st century traveler. The package includes two-nights
for two at Shalimar, which means "the abode of love," includes wireless DSL service.
Both items have been donated to the Silent Auction. The Preservation New
Jersey Gala will be held on Saturday June 24, 2006 at Prallsville Mills, in Stockton,
New Jersey. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction,
followed by dinner buffet and live auction. |
